The German political journal Rundblick Niedersachsen has presented the “Lower Saxony Woman of the Year” award to Chabad Shlucha Shterna Wolff, who leads activities in Hanover and Lower Saxony.
The ceremony took place at the Chabad Headquarters in Hanover, “Haus Benjamin,” which Mrs. Wolff built in memory of her late husband and partner in Shlichus Rabbi Benny Wolff OBM. He passed away 2 years ago at the age of 43.
Mrs. Wolff has since decided to remain in Germany and continue to serve her community with her children. She has since then appointed additional Shluchim Rabbi Levi and Mussi Gotlieb to assist with the growing activities.
Upon receiving the award, Mrs. Wolff shared the following heartfelt words:
“Thank you for choosing me as “Lower Saxony Woman of the Year” and thank you for this important award.
“This award is not only for me, this award is also for my dear husband, Rabbi Benyamin Wolff, of blessed memory.
“Together we founded the Chabad House in Hanover seventeen years ago, with the mission and blessing of the Lubavitcher Rebbe – the Rebbe who taught us to love and respect every human being because every human being is created in the image of G-d.
“I know there were many candidates – perhaps more worthy candidates than me. But in the year when Germany celebrates 1700 years of deep-rooted Jewish history, you have chosen someone who proudly represents the Jewish people, the Jewish spirit and the Jewish tradition.
“Jewish tradition teaches us that it does not matter what challenges stand in our way. We never give up! This important award gives me a lot of strength to continue our work for the benefit of the Jewish community in Lower Saxony, for the benefit of the city and the country, and for that I am deeply grateful. This award will continue to shape the ongoing momentum of the work for Jewish life in this federal state.”
This award is given every year by the political journal, “Rundblick Niedersachsen,” one of the most influential media in the state, known as the newspaper of politicians, civil servants and entrepreneurs; a journal that helps shape the public discourse.
A selection process is held by the newspaper’s many readers, who are asked to choose their “Person of the Year” from up to fifty candidates who have each previously received the title of “Man or Woman of the Week” during the calendar year.
These men and women are personalities with a public presence and influence in the state and have received the weekly title for their respective contribution, work and dedication to the state.
From the entire “Person of the Week” selection, one personality is chosen as “Person of the Year” each year. Among them was Mrs. Wolf, who was named “Lower Saxon of the Week” by the newspaper a few months ago.
An important article was published in the newspaper that week, detailing the extensive Jewish activities in Hanover and in the “Benjamin House” that have been and continue to be carried out by Shterna and her family, who continue their honorable mission there – even after the tragic death of the unforgettable Rabbi Wolff.
As Mrs. Wolff said, this award will continue to shape the ongoing momentum of the work for Jewish life in the years to come.
